Course and Project Two Reflection

Honors Colloquy has taught me a lot of things in a very unconventional way, instead of taking notes I got to actually do it. In Project One I found myself learning how to do research in way I never had before, doing something and taking notes on it as well as incorporating videos as research material rather than the typical .org site on the first page of Google. It was a lot of fun and actually made me look forward to doing similar projects in the future. Project Two gave me a lot of insight where I never expected it. I'll admit, I got in WAY over my head with Project Two. The project I talked about in my Precís and mindmap was quite possible one of the most ambitious school projects I have ever done. And I had to learn my lesson with this one. As of right now only the first 5 chapters of Book 1 are finished, and there are still several more planned. I had originally planned for there to be only 6 chapters but as I went along I saw how in depth I wanted to go and I had to face th

For Project Two I am going to write a story, specifically in the Dark Souls Universe. As of writing this I have recently finished Dark Souls 3, the third and final instalment in the franchise and have been reflecting on the past three years as I slowly made my way through the series. The story itself would follow the character I made and kept through all three games, Geoffrey. In my eyes, Geoffrey was an extension of me. Because of that I want to weave my own life story in with Geoffrey’s. A lot has happened to me in the past three years and playing Dark Souls was always a way to help me sort out my emotions and keep me on the right track.              As stated before I want to tell the story of Geoffrey and his adventures through all three games, but at the same time I want to incorporate my own personal experiences within his tale. When a big event occurred in my life I want it to echo into Geoffrey’s. For instance, there was a time when I fell into a bout with depression, I

Assignment - Talking about the Double Entry Log

For my first assignment dealing with Project Two I was tasked with looking at some work of fiction and analyzing it to get a better understanding of it. Because I have a problem  really enjoy the Dark Souls video game franchise I chose to look at one of my favorite games of all time, Dark Souls. For this assignment I both played and watched some gameplay of Dark Souls. I played up until about the halfway point of the game because I can do that without having to put in much effort but I decided to cop out and watch some footage to review the later sections because it is a 30 hour RPG and I didn't have the time to invest a full 30 hours into one paper. The full assignment will be located below this section. This assignment just made me enjoy a lot of the subtleties of Hidetaka Miyazaki's work. I find that I REALLY enjoy games. movies, and just stories in general if they have a very rich lore incorporated, and my god does Dark Souls have that in spades. One of my favorite pieces

Assignment - Talking about Project One

For the first Project of this class I was tasked with expanding my knowledge of something that interested me. I know, pretty vague, but from that vague assignment I got to do something really fun: talk about video games. Up until this project I never really had the opportunity to talk about video games in a classroom setting despite the fact that I love them so much and spend a majority of my time playing them. In a previous class this year I was able to talk about the story but never the game design aspect like I did in Project One. However in that paper I talked about a completely different game franchise than the one I picked in Project One. In that paper, and in Project 2 as well, I talked about the Dark Souls franchise, but in Project One I talked about a game franchise that is near and dear to my heart: The Legend of Zelda. My main idea for Project One was to talk about the latest game in the series, Breath of the Wild, and talk about how drastically different in design it was

About Me

I'm Logan and I'm  studying to one day be able to create my own stories through mediums such as fill, video games, and all other forms of art. I love all forms of story telling and love the stories that make me dig deep for a really rewarding experience. Recently I've been looking into one of my favorite stories and game franchises, Dark Souls. I love it more than humanely possible and find the story it portrays absolutely fascinating. It has so much lore that its almost impossible to read it all on your first play-through. By studying it in this way I'm learning how to pull of all the subtitles that make a deep story so engaging.
